FEATURE, Metal Magazine, July/August 2003. In addition to the feature I wrote and placed in Roofing Contractor to help FLIR, the maker of the infrared cameras shown, to penetrate the roofing inspection market, I also wrote this feature for Metal Magazine. The value proposition is that metal roofs cannot be inspected from outside the building because they are highly reflective of long wave infrared radiation--one ends up with a reading of the cold reflected temperature of the sky! However, "walk-under" inspections can reveal the presence of leakage by exploiting the property of wet building materials to remain cooler or cooler longer than dry materials during diurnal temperature cycles.  My previous experience providing marketing communications and technical manual authorship for roofing membrane manufacturers J.P. Stevens and Sarnafil were critical assets, as was the close working relationship I established with the FLIR Infrared Training Center staff, to the success of this piece.
